Playhouse Creatures

Oranges….. five gutsy women…. a fun-loving king…. and a theatre!

Playhouse Creatures – the rip-roaring story of the first ever actresses on the English stage.

1663: Charles II has been restored to the throne, and, after 17 years of Puritan rule, he reopens the playhouses. For the first time, women appear on stage, and crowds flock to the theatres to see these glittering beauties.
Five spirited women grab this newfound freedom and the chance of better, more exciting lives.
But they find that their future is still uncertain….

Playhouse Creatures – boisterously funny and deeply moving

“A witty, illuminating, bawdy romp” Express and Star
“With delicious absurd extracts from the heroic repertory and frantic dressing room scenes, the prevailing tone is comic but you are not allowed to forget the gutter waiting to reclaim these glittering figures.”  Independent on Sunday

Playhouse Creatures, a play by April De Angelis. This production was by kind permission of the Concord Theatricals UK
