AUDITION NOTICES AND RESOURCES

The Gallery Players are very excited to be staging the area-premiere of the worldwide hit musical, Hadestown. This licensed Teen Edition version of the show has been especially crafted to be cast entirely with teenagers, however no material has been cut or altered, meaning that this is the exact musical that has taken the musical theatre world by storm over the last 6 years and is currently performed nightly on Broadway and in the West End.

Hadestown fuses together the Greek myths of Orpheus & Eurydice and Hades & Persephone with a high-energy and soaring New Orleans jazz score. The entire cast will be made up of young performers aged 16-19, meaning that we are looking for 16 multi-talented young performers for both principal and ensemble roles. It is a high-octane show that will be very involved for all cast members, so a high level of commitment will be required from all cast members.

The show will be directed and choreographed by award-winning director Wade Ablitt (Parade, The Great British Bake Off Musical) with musical direction by Olly Wood (The Bridges of Madison County, Sunday in the Park with George) and will be staged at the newly refurbished Gallery Studio Theatre. Hadestown: Teen Edition will feature the full orchestration of a 7-piece live band, with sound & lighting by JLA Sound & Light and scenic design by Gallery’s terrific in-house team led by Dave Borthwick.

The production week is 22nd July – 1st August. These will be evening shows only with a day-off on Sunday 26th, meaning there will be 10 performances total. Technical rehearsals will take place on 19th, 20th & 21st July so anyone being cast in the show will need to be completely available from 19th July – 1st August. Rehearsals will take place on Monday and Wednesday evenings beginning 6th April with some Sunday morning/early afternoon rehearsals closer to the production. All of these rehearsals will take place at The Gallery Studio Theatre, although some rehearsals will be relocated during the run of Gallery’s “A Little Night Music”.

For licensing reasons, all potential cast members must be aged 16-19 between 19th July – 1st August 2026, meaning that young performers under the age of 16 are able to audition and rehearse the show, as long as they turn 16 ahead of the technical rehearsals (19th July), however we cannot cast anyone who will turn 20 before/during the production process.

AUDITION WORKSHOP

1st March 2026
11am – 3pm
Pinewood Community Hall
Laburnum Cl, Pinewood, Ipswich, IP8 3SL

The workshop day will consist of being taught music and choreography from the show by this production’s creative team. There will also be some lighthearted physical warm-ups so that the auditionees can get better acquainted as well as some acting exercises. There is no need to prepare anything beforehand, although we will release a list of the musical numbers we will be covering closer to the time so that auditionees can be familiar with the music beforehand; but we generally recommend that anyone interested in auditioning familiarises themselves with the show as much as possible in the lead up to the auditions to get a better feel for what we’re looking for. On top of people’s talent and ability, we will also be looking out for the work ethic and enthusiasm of auditionees, so come prepared to jump into the workshop with both feet!

The day will be very physical so please come in clothes that you are able to move in as well as bringing plenty of water and a snack (as we will take a short 15 minute pause across lunchtime) – auditionees are not permitted to leave the venue over this break, so please bring everything you need with you.

Due to a projected high number of auditionees, we’ve decided to host the audition workshop at the Pinewood Community Hall to ensure we have plenty of space to work. The audition workshop will begin at 11am, so please arrive with plenty of time to settle in before we begin. Please note, due to our necessity to see auditionees performing collaboratively with each other, we cannot accept video auditions for Hadestown: Teen Edition, so please do your best to make yourself available for the workshop day.

The Original Broadway Cast Recording and London Highlights albums of Hadestown can be found on all music streaming platforms, as well as multiple YouTube clips from various productions. A full list of characters can be found here:
